Dr. Knapp, a board certified ophthalmologist, graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Biophysics. During her undergraduate studies she worked in Carnegie Mellon’s Science and Technology Center on the development of computer software for image processing in optical sectioning microscopy.
At Vanderbilt Medical School in Nashville Dr. Knapp continued to be actively involved in research while earning her medical degree. She helped in the identification of genes involved in macular degeneration and presented a new method of measuring corneal infection. Her work is published in the American Journal of Human Genetics.
Upon graduation from Vanderbilt, Dr. Knapp completed her internship at Morristown Memorial Hospital. She then served her ophthalmology residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. She was involved in research on the treatment of glaucoma that she presented at the annual ARVO meeting (Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology). Dr. Knapp has also been a presenter at ASCRS (The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery), NANOS (North American Neuro-Ophthalmic Society), and her work is published in many scientific journals including the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Knapp grew up in Belle Mead, NJ where she has volunteered at the Princeton Medical Center for many years. In her spare time, she enjoys the outdoors and is an avid runner. She has competed in numerous 5K and 10K races.
