Eye Health Update

Maintaining Healthy Eyes
Recommendations from the American Academy of Ophthalmology

Dr. Lopatynsky wants to share these tips for preventing serious eye injuries:

1. Know your risk factors for eye diseases and see an ophthalmologist - your Eye M.D. for an eye exam at the intervals she recommends.
2. Always wear sunglasses that block 99-100% of UV-A and UV-B rays when outdoors for extended periods, particularly if you spend time in the snow or water.
3. Never share cosmetics, especially eyeliner or mascara. Serious eye infections can be spread from one person to another through cosmetics.
4. If you wear contact lenses, apply cosmetics after inserting lenses. This helps prevent stray makeup from getting under the lens and irritating your eyes.
5. Working on a computer can cause eyestrain. Place your screen at or below eye level. Take periodic breaks to rest your eyes.
